ABA—Ahead of 2019 polls, the All Progressives Congress APC, Abia State, has said it is targeting about 250,000 membership strength which it needs to win the elections across the 17 council areas of the state.
State chairman of the party, Mr. Donatus Nwankpa, who disclosed this during an APC stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia, said about 100,000 new members were registered with the party during the validation exercise.
Nwankpa added that several committees, which include Contact and Mobilization, Finance and Funding, Planning and Research, Publicity and Sensitization and Elders Advisory Committees, had been constituted to strengthen the party ahead of 2019 elections.
He stated that the meeting was aimed at mobilizing stakeholders towards working for a common goal which is to sack the PDP through the ballots in 2019.
Speaking at the meeting, a former governor of the state, Orji Uzor Kalu, and the party’s governorship candidate in the 2015 general election, Dr. Nyerere Anyim, said that the days of PDP were numbered in Abia.
According to Kalu, “This is the time for Leaders of the party to demonstrate love and unity towards moving the party forward. The love for our dear party should be supreme than love for positions. We must demonstrate understanding and work together as one united party. We should also forget the past and work towards taking over Abia in 2019. The era of rigging is over as nobody will steal votes again in Abia”.
Anyim asserted that APC has been repositioned to win election at all levels in Abia State.
“Let’s work together as party leaders to achieve a mutual goal. With the array of political bigwigs and leaders that have joined APC, we don’t have reason for not taking over the state in future elections,” Anyim said.
